Records, 1910s-1987.

This collection is the result of interviews and research conducted in the 1980s by Indianapolis area military historians Wayne Sanford and Doug Clanin. It is part of the World War II oral history collection formerly located at the Ernie Pyle State Historic site. The bulk of the materials are transcripts of interviews with survivors of the resistance movement in the Philipines by U.S. and native participants. In addition to transcripts, there is correspondence and supporting historic materials including photographs, maps, artifacts, and official military reports and printed items. These include records from the National Archives, original orders, dispatches, and documents from the Anderson Guerilla group, 1943-48.

Douglas E. Clanin was born in Anderson, Indiana in 1940. He was the son of Howard P. and Sarah Elizabeth "Liz" (Weatherford) Clanin. Howard was the son of Arthur and Clara (Rissiek) Clanin. The Howard Clanin family also included Greg, Doug's younger brother. They lived in Anderson, Indiana where Mr. Clanin worked as a foreman at Delco Remy. After a five month struggle United States military forces in the Philippines surrendered to the Japanese. Most of those were involved in the Bataan Death March.
